I am not able to comment on much of the rowing as I was not on the water and could not see a great deal from the boathouse doors. It was good to see so many small boats in action 6 singles, one pair, one four and one quad.
The combo in the quad was interesting and a good show.
Danie was leaving as I arrived at about 08:00. I presume there was no one else to row with him and all the sculling boats were in use. Better luck next time Danie
It was so good to see “Old Man Pan”, Aubrey (title taken over from the late Doug Munton), down again apparently recovered from his recent health problems. Lennie was AWOL
The Committee four was bolstered by Cookie at No 2. The Captain, playing truant, missed out because Cookie brought his usual donation of Lipton’s Yellow Label tea and Nescafe Classic coffee
Frans complained that John B told him that the row with him was bog slow compared to those he had with Allie!
Thanks John
Big Will was back in action without even a limp from that troubling knee
Laurance explained to me that his 2- partner, Dom, was not there because while trying to peel an apple or something like that, he managed to strip his finger in such a way that 16 stitches were required to close it all up. They were apparently able to trace him by his blood trail!
I can’t help feeling that the 6 scullers, stroked by Dieter, would have made a blistering Sixtaple
A tune went around in my head to which I put the following Lyrics
“ Where have all the Prima Donnas gone?”
I did not see it but I believe the Quad squeezed Big Will toward the bank and Big Will squashed Johnnyie ever outwards until the latter let out a rooster call – “I’m against the wall”
Teatime:
Cakes from Bill, swapped Sundays with Doug. Delicious fresh sandwiches and chocolate cake by Alex. Thanks-a-stack
Next up on the roster following Doug for the 16th is Len for the 23rd.
Wemmer Sprint:
Graham did let me have the advertising rates for the Brochure but I did not publish them in the last letter because I expected there may have been some changes.
The rates are listed under the Sprint 2009 Link and should be adhered to as far as possible.
Perhaps if you are going to try and raise an advert you could let Alan Cook know so that he has some idea of what to expect.
If 15 members could secure a half page black and white I think it would cover the printing costs and anything over that is for our account. Not much time left. Lets give it a go!
Of course, the other items needed urgently as given in the circular from Cookie are articles from members. Copy and photographs if possible. Please peruse the circular from Cookie, once again, and see if you are able to take on one or more tasks that he listed – Regatta Office – Regatta Control – Race Officials Coordinator – Results Service – Gate/Parking Control – Food Stall – Coke Can – Commentary – Jetty Marshal. Lets make it happen.
