To the best of my knowledge the following intrepid crews took to the rough wind swept waters of Wemmer Pan and contested some of the 102 races on the rowing programme.
Some 20 races had to be cancelled because there were simply too many races to handle in one day and a further 20 because of the near gale force windy conditions which prevailed from 05:30 thru to about 15:30 when it tamed down to a strong wind.

Now I did not have access to the official results but this is what I gleaned from my various sources. If they are not entirely correct you will simply have to forgive me. I have no idea what happened in the Men’s B Eights which sported entries from no less than 8 school crews, Wits and Wemmer. Wits won it and that is all I can tell you because there was so much wild splashing that everything else was in a dense haze!
Who needs to train for their races?! Our Prima Donnas with one Sunday outing under their belts blew the 4 opposing crews away in the Masters 1st 4x- race and won by a canvas crushing the might of Viking and VL/UJ. Shot, ou Kat!
The Masters 1st, 2nd and 3rd 8+’s were lumped together. Our 3rd 8+ beat our 2nd 8+ and the rest of the field made up of 3 Viking and 1 VL/UJ were of no consequence!
The rest of the Masters races is a blur but we were well represented in the 3rd 4x- with pretty Belinda from Durbs and in the 2nd 4- by our stalwarts and ringer Greg!
Wemmer Juniors. Now here we can really be proud of our successes. Out of a squad of 12 girls and 2 boys the following is recorded. For the names of the crew members see the lists above.
Gold: JW 14A 2x and WB 4x+
Silver: JM 15C 1x, JW 15C 4x+ and WB 4x+
Bronze: JW14A1x and JW15C2x
Well done you guys we are rooting for you at the Jeppe Regatta next Saturday at Roodeplaat.
